It’s always fun to make products. Hydrosols are an alchemical experience using my Copper Alembic Still - the same style still has been used for thousands of years. Tinctures are a tried and true way to preserve our plant medicine and are usually stable for up to ten years. Oils and Salves are reliably stable for only about three years, and I also have them. Please scroll down for more information.
A Hydrosol is simply water and plant matter - the alchemy is when the mixture goes through the Copper Alembic Still. Mostly I use plants that have volatile oils that become suspended. Commercial hydrosols draw off the oils as a separate product but I don’t. Typically I make Thyme, Rose, Yarrow, Lavender, Rosemary and Borage as well as Eucalyptus, Bay, and Redwood. You can see the properties of the individual plants on the Plants page of this website (Plants). Hydrosols are $20 for a 2oz spray bottle (pictured above).
I make tinctures from plants from my organic garden and organic alcohol. The plant matter macerates in the alcohol for two months. I then decant and bottle it. I sell these for $15/0z.
